Japan has accelerated the recycling of PET bottles. After filtration, the sludge and additives were removed, BHET was reacted with methanol, and DMT and EG were produced by transesterification at a boiling temperature of methanol and a pressure of 0.1 MPa. The DMT and EG were further separated by distillation. The purity of the recovered EMT and EG was as high as 99.99%. DMT can be converted to pure TPA (terephthalic acid) for the manufacture of bottle grade PET resins. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Trade of Japan also uses ethylene glycol, which is effectively recycled, as a solvent for dissolving PET bottles. In the Japanese plastics industry, Plastic Industries developed a plastic transparent plate made of waste PET bottles. These products can be used both indoors and out of pure PET raw materials and polycarbonate (PC) all outside the home. There are more than 25% recycled PET in both, and the light transmittance is over 90%. With the same transparency as the PG board, transparency can be maintained even when the rear stage is processed by thermoforming. Both of these products were awarded with the PET Bottle Recycling Promotion Award from the Japan PET Bottle Association as an environmentally friendly product. The PET bottle recycling system utilizes a chemical coating removal technology to remove caustic contaminants from PET bottles by using caustic soda as a chemical coating remover to recycle any type of PET bottle. The recycled products processed by this technology can not only be mixed directly to produce preforms. At the same time, recycled products can meet the purity and quality requirements due to the low content of acetaldehyde and yellow pigments, and are particularly suitable for products in the food and beverage industry.
