Food packaging recycled plastics containing plasticizer dangerous

It is understood that with the advent of the moon cakes in the Mid-Autumn Festival, the plastic trays used for packaging moon cakes have been exploded. The plasticizers contained in inferior plastic trays will be precipitated under the action of moon cake oils and are dangerous and healthy.

Liu Wenzong of the School of Food Science at Southwest University said that plastic products can be roughly divided into two categories, namely primary plastics and recycled plastics. The former is made from raw materials at one time, and does not contain plasticizers or have a slight content. The latter is made through the recycling of existing products. After multiple melting, filtration and solidification molding, the hardness of the plastic will increase every time it is processed and plasticizers will have to be added. The more recycling times, the higher the plasticizer content. Most of the plastic trays for regular brand moon cakes are original plastics without adding plasticizers. Due to the lower cost, recycled plastics are more favored by inferior moon cake makers, and the resulting plastic trays contain high risk for plasticizers.
