Xinhua News Agency baby usually imitates adult speech, imitating adult facial expressions and movements, but in the face of a grimace or amused adult, the baby laughs at most, rarely imitating. A Canadian study found that babies, although small, knew selective learning from an early age.
An article published in the latest issue of Infant Behavior and Development by Canadian researchers suggests that babies have a distinction between trusted and untrustworthy learning from the very early age.
“Like older children, babies can distinguish whether adult behavior is credible and then guide themselves in learning about these adults.†AFP reported on the 6th that Canadian psychologist Diana Polin-Dub Professor Yis's research article reports.
The researchers invited two groups of babies between 13 months and 16 months old to take a corresponding test. In the test, the researcher made a surprise expression and pretended to see something fun in a container. When the container is opened, one group of babies sees the toy, and the other group of babies sees the empty container.
Then, the same group of researchers used a forehead instead of a hand to turn on a light switch to test whether the baby would simulate his movements.
It was found that the first group of babies found a surprise in the container, imitating the proportion of researchers using the forehead to open the switch by 61%; while the latter group of babies had been deceived by the researcher, the imitation probability was only 34%.
Pauline Dubois said that this trial shows that selective learning for babies is quite obvious. "In particular, babies usually do not choose to learn people they think are untrustworthy."
