The newly developed gel agent is based on the natural extraction of sugar alcohols and fatty acids, and its three-dimensional fiber network molecular structure can absorb a large number of oil molecules to form a gel-like substance.
In the test, the researchers added a small amount of gelling agent to a mixture of water and different oils such as crude oil, diesel, and gasoline. The gelling agent and the oil immediately formed a gel and separated from the water. The jelly is very tightly bonded, and it will not "leak" even if it is flipped. It is suitable for collecting oil on the water surface.
After the new gel agent absorbs the oil, it can completely separate the oil and gel agent through simple vacuum distillation, so that both can be reused. This gel also has the characteristics of low cost, easy production, non-toxic and degradable.
