To find key genes that activate the respiratory system of newborn mice

When the mammal larvae leave the warm mother and come to a strange environment, how does the larvae adapt to this sudden change in breathing? French researchers have recently tested a gene in mice that can help newborn pups breathe with the lung . The researchers believe that this is the key to the survival of mammals after birth.

Experts from the French National Research Center have further discovered that a protein called TSHZ3 plays a key role in the activity of neurons. Experiments have shown that if the gene encoding the synthetic TSHZ3 protein cannot be expressed in the cells of the mouse pups, the mice will suffocate after a few minutes of birth.

In the future, French researchers hope to gain a deeper understanding of the role of TSHZ3 protein-coding genes in respiratory disorders, so as to find solutions to sleep apnea and related medical problems.
