According to a report by the Yonhap News Agency on November 26, a statistics released by the Korea Customs Agency (Customs) on the 26th showed that the amount of toys imported from China from January to October this year reached 6.4527 trillion US dollars, an increase of 12.0%. This is nearly the same as the same period four years ago ($332.17 million). According to this trend, the total import volume this year is expected to exceed the $800 million mark.

At the same time, the proportion of Chinese-made toys in South Korean imports of toys has also increased significantly, from 59.1% in 2013 (from January to October) to 72.8% this year. However, most of the toys imported from China by South Korea are toys produced by Korean companies in China by way of OEM.

At present, world-renowned toy brands such as Japan have entrusted Chinese companies to process production. A person in the toy industry told Yonhap News that due to the low birth rate, the number of Korean children has decreased year by year, but some toys are favored by children, and the toy market is expanding. And the popularity of Western toys such as Lego is not as good as it used to be, which has also boosted the scale of Korean toys imported from China.
