Milk bottle production and filling at the same place help save costs

Nampak Plastics will invest 3.25 million pounds in a milk bottle production facility at Pennybridge Dairy in Dale Farm, Northern Ireland, which will open this summer. The new plant will create 20 production positions for the Ballymena factory, serving the dairy directly, and will serve as a springboard for Nampak to expand its presence in the Irish Republic.
Jamie Tinsley, Sales Director of Nampak, pointed out: “The milk bottle production base and the filling process are carried out in the same place and will avoid unnecessary transportation processes between the two places, which will greatly save transportation costs and reduce carbon emissions.”
Jamie also added that this also means that the handling of milk bottles is simplified, eliminating the damage and waste that many milk bottles carry. The production site in the dairy will use four blow molding machines to produce more than 100 million bottles of HDPE milk bottles each year. In addition, Nampak also plans to have at least 10% of its recycled content. Nampak’s investment amount of 254,000 pounds was sponsored by Invest N1 and the European Regional Development Fund. Tinsley said that the plant will be the first blow molding factory in Northern Ireland. "In addition to Dale Farm, it will also provide convenience to other dairy farms in Ireland. We have received grant funding partly because we are studying the export of products to Ireland."
In addition, Tinsley added that Nampak will continue to look for more ways to increase the recyclable content of milk bottles, matching the detailed plan for milk production. “But we also need to consider the feasibility of the program. At the moment we are negotiating with Closed Loop London and Greenstar WES about this. We need to be confirmed from the production and reprocessing side, and raising recyclables will not cause any negative impact.” Coincidentally, Dale Farm (farm) invested 36 million pounds in dairy processing equipment under the sponsorship of Invest Northern Ireland. This investment will enable the farm to raise its overseas sales by 37.5 million pounds annually over the next four years.

Currently, cheddar cheese production equipment has been launched and it is expected that the entire investment expansion project will be completed in 2013. National executive officer Arlene Foster believes that Nampak's investment plan will bring good benefits to Dale Farm and more dairy products, and plastic packaging manufacturers will also benefit from this.
“Nampak is one of Europe’s largest container suppliers for the food and beverage industry. The company’s factory in Ballymena will be the largest domestic liquid milk internal blowing plant on the island of Ireland, and the new base will help the company expand its presence in more overseas markets. ”
David Dobbin, CEO of Dale Farm, said: "This investment will expand the company's milk supply capacity in the United States and Ireland."
