INVISTA Develops New Material for PET Beer Bottles

Invista recently developed a new material for beer packaging - Poly Shield gas barrier polyester resin. This material is in full compliance with the European Union's Beer Packaging Food Safety Standard.

Poly Shield is a new PET blend resin that combines both oxygen and gas barrier properties. The use of this material in PET single-layer beer bottles greatly improves the barrier properties of oxygen and carbon dioxide gas, and their oxygen-absorbing properties make them avoid the problem of “empty bottle life”.

With Poly Shield, preforms can be produced on standard injection molding machines without the need for additional equipment. The technology is currently being tested at beer production plants.
