The following is the full text of the dialogue:

Theme Dialogue 1: Culture and Heritage

Wang Qin, director of the editorial department of the China News, Publishing and Broadcasting Newsletter: We all know that papermaking and printing are two business cards that Chinese traditional culture never fades. The invention of the two is inextricably linked. The invention of papermaking influenced and promoted the development of printing. Papermaking and printing complement each other, providing a guarantee for the further prosperity and development of the publishing industry, creating indispensable conditions for the exchange and inheritance of human culture, and playing an indelible role.

In the new era, how do our papermakers and paper people relay this cultural confidence and how to pass on this cultural mission? In order to answer these questions, today we have invited heavyweight guests from companies related to scientific research institutions. The field has very outstanding achievements, so let's not say much, let us solemnly ask them out. They are: Mr. Wei Yushan, Dean of China Press and Publication Research Institute, Mr. Sun Baolin, Director of China Printing Museum, Mr. Wei Yunhua, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of People's Education Publishing House, Ms. Li Yanqiu, President of Beijing Shengtong Printing Co., Ltd., Shandong Huatai Paper Co., Ltd. Mr. Li Xiaoliang, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Li Weixian, President of Shandong Chenming Paper Group Co., Ltd. Please invite the guests to the stage.

First of all, starting with the nearest Sun curator, we all know that Sun has always been committed to the spread of Chinese traditional culture. I remember that your proposal in the two sessions last year was also related to this. Paper as an important cultural carrier, what role and status does it play in cultural communication? We now invite the director of the library to tell us.

Sun Baolin: Thank you, the host, handed me the first question. I am from the China Printing Museum. I have carefully studied the white paper. I think that in addition to the calculation of the indicators of the industry, there are 50 issues that are of concern to the society. I am very interested and also take the attitude of learning to participate in today's press conference. In the four ancient inventions of ancient China, papermaking and printing occupied half of the country, which is in terms of quantity. In fact, paper and printing are not only in the status of people's production, life and culture. Paper is an essential part of printing and a cultural carrier, so papermaking and printing are closely related.

Wang Qin: Thank you, Sun’s short and cultural answer. From your speech, we have further understood the historical position of paper in cultural heritage and communication. Then how is the value of paper in contemporary times? We invite Mr. Wei Yushan, the president of China Press and Publication Research Institute, to answer. The Press and Publication Institute has conducted 16 national reading surveys in the past 20 years. What is the situation with paper reading? We have asked Director Wei to introduce it.

Wei Yushan: I am very happy to have this opportunity. I want to share two little stories before I officially introduce it. About 2010, I went to Jinggangshan, Jiangxi Province to study, and went to the Ji'an area to inspect the farmer's book. In one of the villages, I saw a tower. It was not too tall, about two meters, very old. I asked local friends, what is this tower? He said that it was called the Burning Tower or the Burning Paper Tower. Later, I went down and saw that it was written as a sorrowful paper. We used to put these written papers into one. Special towers to burn, can not be lost on the ground to trample or use other ways. It indicates that the ancestors are highly respectful and respectful of the paper on which the words are written or on such cultural products. I was very touched after seeing it. I said that we are such a cultural country with such a cultural heritage. The respect for paper and words is the lifeblood of our cultural heritage. This is the first small experience.

The second is the recent painting and calligraphy exhibition of Yan Zhenqing in Tokyo, Japan, and the Emperor and Empress of Japan also visited. Yan Zhenqing is about 1200 years away from us, and its calligraphy and paintings are still very well preserved until now. Last year, I visited a collection of Chinese classics in the National Library to showcase some precious books and classics from the Dunhuang Scriptures to the founding of New China. From these books, we can see that the publications with content of about 1 560 years ago are still well preserved. What I want to say is that paper plays a very important role in the inheritance of culture.

In 2017, the number of national digital readers exceeded 70%, but our paper reading still maintains a certain proportion, 59% of paper books are read, and 20% to 30% of newspapers and periodicals are read. The reading rate of paper books is 4.6 per capita. 10% of national adults read more than 10 paper books per year, and 1% of them read more than 50 per capita. It can be seen that in today's high-speed digital development, paper reading still has a very broad group, a very large number, which shows that our paper reading still has a tenacious vitality in cultural inheritance, knowledge popularization and information transmission. .

Wang Qin: Thank you, Dean Wei. The two short stories that I shared at the beginning also made us feel the reverence of paper publications. The data you share is very important to papermakers and publishers who are involved in paper reading. Then, how do we publish printing companies to make good use of the Dongfeng and promote the sails in this experience? We have invited President Li Jing of Beijing Shengtong Printing Co., Ltd. to analyze and analyze. Please have a total of Li.

Li: Hello, everyone, I will briefly introduce Shengtong, which was established in 2000. At the beginning of our establishment, we focused on the production and printing of books. In 2011, after the listing of A-shares, in order to get better development, we have made two sections of packaging, and also acquired an education and training company in 2016. At the same time, we also pay attention to platform development and strive to supply well. Chain service work. In 2018, the total amount of paper we used throughout the year was nearly 300,000 tons. The total number of books produced in the whole year was 550 million. There are several categories in the 550 million books. The first category is politics. For example, this "30 lectures", "Xi Jinping's governance of the country", and "Party Constitution", including "Xi Jinping's seven years of informed time", this type of product presents a very good distribution method, the printing volume exceeds 100 Ten thousand or even ten million. The second type of products are student books, mainly textbooks for compulsory education, as well as textbooks for vocational colleges and vocational textbooks. There are also many simultaneous readings in the classroom. There is also a class of fine books, such as "The Complete Works of Qigong", "The Complete Works of Ji Xianlin", "The History of Chinese Art", "The Complete Works of Lu Xun", etc., which have won the Chinese Government Award and Print Copy Award for four consecutive years. There is also a brief history of the future, "A Brief History of Time" and "A Brief History of Today" has also become a book of over one million volumes. Finally, children's books have grown very rapidly in recent years. For example, "My Dad" and "My Mother" have been printed for nearly 12 years and have become a very classic bestseller, with more than 500,000 copies per year. Our data shows that the speed is growing every year.

As a printing company, at present, the printing factory is gradually developing towards green. In the past five years, we have invested heavily in energy saving and consumption reduction, and clean production has reached a very high standard. In addition, the construction of information platform and the transformation of automation with the direction of intelligent manufacturing have also become the mainstream of industrial upgrading. There is also the development of digital printing is also very rapid. In a word, let's do a good job in each book, so that every book can become a fine product. With such a belief, we will use the craftsman spirit of our entire industry to promote the inheritance of human civilization and spread knowledge and culture!

Wang Qin: Thank you, Li Zong, Beijing Shengtong Printing Co., Ltd. is a national printing demonstration enterprise. His innovative exploration is also in line with the development direction of green, digital, intelligent and integrated in China's development planning. When it comes to convergence, in the trend of symbiosis between paper media and electronic media, how do paper books play an important role? We invite Wei to share with us.

Wei Yunhua: Thank you for your invitation. Here I want to talk about two meanings. The first layer means the relationship between paper media and electronic media. They are a relationship that complements each other, complement each other, integrate development, and prosper together. At a time when electronic media is in full swing, I feel that the development of paper media is still in the ascendant. Because the government has vigorously advocated reading for all the people in the past few years, reading has become a spiritual enjoyment for the people. More and more people regard reading as a fashion pursuit and lifestyle. General Secretary Xi Jinping said that reading can keep people's minds alive, and people can be inspired by wisdom, which can nourish the awe-inspiring spirit. Goethe said that reading a good book is to talk to many noble people. Mr. Yang Wei said that reading is to discover the best of himself. Mr. Gong, the editor-in-chief of the national editor-in-chief of the Chinese language textbook, said that the essence of the language is to read more. What they said about reading here, in fact, I think it mainly refers to reading paper books.

The second point I want to talk about the relationship between paper, printing and publishing. Papermaking and printing are one of the four great inventions in ancient China. This is our excellent culture and the blessing of our culture. I feel that we have the responsibility to pass on the excellent culture of China and carry it forward. I think cultural paper has its unique value compared with household paper. If household paper is a daily necessities, then cultural paper is a slow item, even a luxury item.

We advocate that we all work together to make the best readers with the best equipment, the best craftsmanship, and the best technicians. Here, I sincerely hope that our publishers, together with papermakers and printers, will build and share, cooperate and win-win, and strive to publish and print more and more good books for the whole society. thank you all!

Wang Qin: Thank you, Mr. Wei for your speech. Let us also feel a deep feeling for paper books. Next we will talk about news paper. As mentioned in the white paper, waste paper raw materials account for 63% of the total pulp consumption in China's newsprint production, but we also noticed that the country imposed strict restrictions on solid waste imports and required basic realization by the end of 2020. Zero import of solid waste. Under such circumstances, how do newsprint manufacturers solve the current shortage of raw materials? We have asked Chairman Li Xiaoliang of Shandong Huatai Paper to give us an answer, thank you.

Li Xiaoliang: Thank you. I am very happy to participate in the Paper Industry Sustainability Forum today. It should be said that newsprint faces a relatively large market problem. The moderator just introduced that before the end of 2020, the state will not allow further import of solid waste, which may have a relatively large impact on the industry. Of course, because of the influence of electronic media and online media, newsprint has undergone tremendous changes since the end of 2008 to the end of 18 years. The total consumption of newsprint decreased from 38.9 million tons in 2008 to 1.6 million tons in 18 years. Huatai also constantly adjusted the product structure according to the overall market demand. The output of Huatai Newsprint is up to 1.3 million tons. By 2018, Huatai's entire newsprint production is less than 500,000 tons due to restrictions on raw materials. Of course, this is also the country's use of newsprint as a national strategic reserve. In 19 years, we planned to produce a total of 650,000 tons, which is also based on the needs of the overall market. No matter what happens, Huatai, as one of the newsprint production plants, will continue to do its best to meet the market demand.

Wang Qin: Thank you! Next, we will focus on the field of cultural paper. How is the development of this field? We ask the President of Shandong Chenming Paper Group, Li Weixian, to answer.

Li Weixian: Thank you all! Cultural paper as a carrier of words and culture has always played a huge role in the development of the whole society. Cultural paper is used in publishing textbooks, mainly offset paper. With the development of the times, many paper types have been updated one after another, like the later printed digital paper. With the development of the times, we believe that the demand for cultural paper in the future will be more diverse, like waterproof and oil-proof. As the company with the largest capacity of Chinese cultural paper, Chenming will have a production value of 5 million tons of cultural paper by the end of 18, and the overall market share will reach 30%, not only to increase production, but also to improve quality. At the end of 18, we have already put into operation the three major pulp mill projects, all of which are now made of wood pulp and paper, so that paper can adapt to social development. For the people to provide a quality reading experience, our papermakers will be able to do well and will be able to provide the best products and services. Thank you!

Wang Qin: Thank you, Mr. Li, and thank you for the wonderful speeches of the six guests on the stage. Our first dialogue session is over, thank you!
