China's taps heavy metal content will be mandatory norms

Shi Hongwei, deputy director of the National Building Materials Industry Construction Hardware Plumbing Product Quality Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center, disclosed in Fujian in October 2013 that the new standard “ceramic chip sealer” drafted by the center and Xianyang Ceramics Research and Design Institute will lead to the heavy metal content of the tap. As a mandatory specification, it will be implemented in 2014.

Faucet heavy metal content

According to Shi Hongwei, the currently used Ceramic Sealing Tap is GB18145-2003. Some of the technical requirements and contents can no longer meet the development of the industry. To ensure the advancement of standards, protect the interests of consumers, and promote the upgrading of the industry, 2009 The Chinese Federation of Building Materials proposes amendments to this standard and is set up by the industry standardization management committee.

Shi Hongwei said that the standard was analyzed and compared with domestic and foreign standards and strict data validation. The final draft was formed in September 2013 and submitted to the industry standardization management committee for approval. It is expected to be released next year.
According to Shi Hongwei, in the new standard, the requirements for the precipitation of metal contaminants in taps have been increased. She said that for the industry's most concerned about the heavy metal content requirements, the new standard uses the United States NSF/ANSI61-2012 "drinking water system components - health impact" standard as a reference, and as a standard mandatory clause.

In July this year, the "lead" incident of the faucet was exposed. "There are indeed many doubts about the personnel, equipment, and detection methods for the faucet lead content." Shi Hongwei said that it should be conducted by a state-qualified unit in accordance with scientific and normative methods. And publish the results. The amount of "lead" that has received widespread consumer attention has been raised to no more than 5ug/L in this standard.

Lin Xiaofa, chairman of Jiumu Kitchen & Bath Co., Ltd. believes that the current domestic market share of the bathroom industry is highly fragmented, and the introduction of new mandatory standards for taps will help the industry reshuffle. "The market share of the top ten faucet manufacturers is not high. Whoever can launch the healthy drinking water leader trusted by consumers will have more opportunities to shake off their opponents and seize the market." He said, "Nine cattle husbandry had been two years ago. The development of its own healthy drinking water system has launched the third generation of healthy drinking water taps."

Persons in the bathroom industry believe that the new mandatory standards will bring yet another upgrade of faucet products, promote the development of the faucet industry toward health, energy conservation and environmental protection. The promotion of standards will inevitably encourage companies to carry out innovative R&D, thus stimulating the entire industry. improvement.
